Retired Certification

The Hospice and Palliative Credentialing Center is pleased to announce its retired certification. The HPCC retired certification designation is meant for certificants who want to recognize their previous hospice and palliative certification, but have retired and no longer practice in the specialty. The retired certification will become available during the year the certification expires and six months past the expiration date.

Eligibility

  • Fully retired from clinical practice and not working in any position that requires a license in hospice or palliative care (APRN, RN, LPN/LVN, LSW).
  • Fully retired CHPNA from clinical practice and not working in any position in hospice and palliative care.
  • Your credential is in good standing at the time of application.

Application & Fees

Certificants interested in an HPCC retired certification must log in to LearningBuilder to apply and pay a one-time fee of $100.
Once logged in, navigate to the LearningBuilder tab on the left side.

Use of the Retired Credential

  • On a resume, in an email signature, or on a business card
  • On a name badge for hospice and palliative care conferences or educational meetings
  • On social media
  • Volunteer opportunities in hospice and palliative care
  • The retired designation cannot be used on a name badge if returning to work in hospice or palliative care.
  • The retired designation cannot be used after a signature if returning to work in hospice or palliative care.

If a certificant returns to nursing practice, they must notify HPCC within 30 days of returning to practice, and discontinue using the retired designation. If a certificant desires to regain the credential, they must meet initial eligibility requirements and pass the certification exam.
