RN Learning - A Palliative Journey (non-CNE course)
Presented by Roxanne O'Brien, BSN, RN, Homecare Palliative Care Manager for the Montefiore Medical Center in the Bronx section of New York.
Ms. O'Brien discusses more about the differences between palliative versus hospice care, a review of the Palliative Care Act and advance directives, a discussion on communication and conversations, and information on palliative care patient referrals.
Our speaker stared her nursing career in New York City 29 years ago, and spent her first 17 years at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center as a clinical nurse in ambulatory care. When she moved to the Bronx with her family, she transitioned to hospice and palliative care as a visiting nurse. Ms. O'Brien joined Montefiore Medical Center 10 years ago for the opportunity to join fellow palliative enthusiasts from across the organization's campuses in growing palliative care services for the community. She has spent the past 6 years as the program manager for palliative care in Montefiore's Home Care Division. She thanks you for joining her today on a palliative journey.
