Palliative Care for Patients with HIV
Palliative Care for Patients with HIV
Jessica Nymeyer, MBA, MSN, AGACNP-BC, ACHPN, CCRN, presents Palliative Care for Patients with HIV.

Widespread use of antiretroviral medications in the United States has transformed HIV from a condition that historically led to death from AIDS to a chronic condition. This presentation highlights the many ways that people living with HIV can uniquely benefit from palliative care services including pain and symptom management, psychosocial support, and assistance with advance directives and complex decision-making. Case studies and current research will be used to illustrate the important role palliative care clinicians play in the care of patients with HIV.

Ms. Nymeyer is a palliative care nurse practitioner who currently practices on an inpatient palliative care consult team at Montefiore Medical Center, a large academic medical center located in the Bronx, NY. She previously worked for 10 years as a bedside nurse in the intensive care unit. Ms. Nymeyer earned her MBA in healthcare leadership in 2016 with an ambition to highlight the important roles of nurses in ensuring high-quality patient outcome and, cost effective care and improving healthcare equality.
